Journey to Healing Resources and Workshops
Journey to Healing
As a therapist working with survivors of partner abuse, you may have experienced:
-
Concern about their safety
-
Impatience that they remain in the relationship
-
Frustration when they don’t follow through with suggestions
-
Worry about their isolation
-
Overwhelm from the complexity of their struggles
-
Hopelessness that the abuse will ever stop
These feelings are natural. Every therapist working in this field encounters them, which is why awareness of countertransference is essential. Your emotional responses can offer valuable insight into what survivors themselves may be feeling.
During my practice, I developed resources to aid clients in their healing journeys. My motivation to share them comes from hearing clients express that they wished they had access to such materials in previous therapy experiences.

NASW Workshop
Holding Space, Holding Power: Ethical and Empowering Practice with Domestic Abuse Survivors
When: August 31st 2-4:00 pm CST
Format: In person and virtual
This workshop occurs on Day 3 of the three day conference. It covers assessment considerations with domestic abuse survivors. The session will also touch on awareness of common counter-transference issues.
Jennifer will use videos to demonstrate intake and early therapy sessions, which will give participants an opportunity to view and discuss responses. The session will end with an overview of the Journey to Healing curriculum and its adherence to trauma informed therapy.
Jennifer promotes the importance of recognizing the resiliency survivors show and how to build upon it. It recognizes how victims have experienced minimization and discrimination which colludes with silencing them.
Participants will:
1. Learn important issues in assessing victims of interpersonal abuse.
2. Become aware of their counter-transference buttons.
3. Discuss therapeutic responses to video scenarios.
4. Learn about trauma informed therapeutic interventions that empower victims
